Shinkenchiku-Sha La casa de cuatro dimensiones

The competition was organized by Japan Architect and Steve Holl. The project was to design a “House of multiple dimensions”.
While it is still debatable if the fourth dimension is a dimension of time, Einstein’s theory of relativity states that the passage of time depends on our state of motion and that everything is relative to our position in space and time.

Greene’s string theory speculates that the universe is created not by particles but of tiny strings. These strings could be closed like loops or open as hairs. As the string moves through time it traces out a tube or a sheet, according to whether it is closed or open. This theory forces us to reevaluate the way in which we understand the universe. The house of multiple dimensions will be intricately
related to our understanding of space and time and should expose Einstein’s relativity and reflect the ideas of String Theories forcing us to reevaluate the way in which we dwell and move (or not move) through space. The design for the house of multiple dimensions changes the way in which we travel through a house towards different functional spaces since instead of following the traditional model of movement, where one moves towards the functional space, the house’s functional spaces move towards you as you walk on a band (not dissimilar to an exercise band) to rotate a “functional tube” or cylinder. The different functional elements of the house will unfold and stretch from the cylinder’s skin creating a continuous loop or extruded string.
