Encontrando a Mondrian

Is it possible for a two-dimensional object to give us enough information to enable us to rationalize it in order to make it three-dimensional?
The seminar focused on the three-dimensionalization of a Piet Mondrian painting. In order to look for rational processes, first I analyzed the Casa Gulliani-Frigerio by Terragni to find a spatial logic and Peter Eisenmann’s House IV to find a structural logic. After the analysis of these projects, a method to find space in a Mondrian painting was conceived. The method consisted on assigning perceptual values to each of the elements in order to allow a location in space based on repetition and sequence. The location of each of the stages was assigned by rotating the painting 90 degrees.

Based on color gradation, the mondrian was disected to start understanding a possible spatial location for the planes. The planar disposition was overlaped with the black lines to produce vertical structure.
These two systems then where used to produce the three dimensional representation of the Mondrian painting.
